Orthodox Jewish Mayor in Teaneck
An interesting story of how Orthodox centers/enclaves are reaching a kind of third generation of suburban development: first establishing the community, then becoming a dominant element in the area, and finally making an effort to govern the area.
The newly-elected Elie Katz spoke with radio host Nachum Segal earlier this week (via TTC).
He’s actually the third Orthodox Jewish mayor in New Jersey, after Englewood’s Michael Wildes and Lakewood’s Meir Lichtenstein.
I’ll be reporting on this throughout the day for a story in the JTA, so if you’ve got interesting angles to add, now’s the time to do so.
